Thor’s Freshman Year

I don't like to resort to one word reviews because that's not fair. Bore does come to mind though.

This was the first Thor film introducing the Norse inspired god into the MCU. And like anyone who was a freshman, he’s dull and needed some polish before he found his way.

I didn’t know that Thor was going to get kind of awesome in his junior year and might be someone I’d want to hang out with when he became a senior. But man, Thor was the worst superhero when he got his start.

Freshman Thor only remind me of the bevy of high school football meatheads who harassed me and my friends. Thanks for the fun flashbacks. I didn’t know it at the time, but rye, mustard and cheese was required to choke down this film because Anthony Hopkins hams it up like an out of control deli. The man will never be kosher.

I was keen to see the always excellent Natalie Portman and yes, I was intrigued by Kat Dennings for only the most pervy reason. Sorry internet, I’m human. The joke was on me though as those ladies are barely in the first film. Dudes, dudes, dudes, dudes, dudes.

But along came Taika Waititi. Like a good mentor, he helped make Thor human and helped reveal an endearing side to the character we hadn’t seen before. This summer, I hope he will do it again in Thor: Love and Thunder. We shall see.
