You Wanna Get High School?

Many suns and moons ago, I had a college semester in Los Angeles. At orientation, one of the school’s alumni gave us a pep talk about our short time out West. He was talking about his experience working in The Industry. I’m confident I was hungover, but there was one key takeaway which haunts me to this day. He equated it to being like high school except for one major difference. It was high school, but with money. His flip insight into the entertainment industry expanded in my young brain. Arguable, I have found it to be an accurate take on life living in America. When you get older, it’s still all just high school with money.

People have a lot of beliefs. There was this one guy I knew who thought it was a good idea to outright ask any women he met if they wanted to have sex. There are others who feel that America is a declining power due to the ravages of late stage capitalism. And some folks believe our souls are light bodies which inhabit these meat suits we call bodies. We are all light bodies having a human experience. I tend to believe in a plant I can grow, nurture, dry up and smoke, but that’s me. Anyway, I seem to have drifted far from my original post. Let’s get back to it.

The mainstreaming of weed has been a Hollywood mission for years and one I wholeheartedly agree with. Dazed and Confused is considered to be a canon marijuana movie because, well, Matthew McConaughey. It’s also set in the 70s. Fast Times at Ridgemont High was excused of it’s weed scenes because it was Southern California plus Jeff Spicoli. High School is a gloved finger up the ass of all those barring the way to marijuana legalization and it directly targets the high school student. I want to party with these producers! Also Michael Chiklis went to my alma mater.
