Kar Kulture Killers
Cars seem to be haunting my movie watching of late. I could blame Los Angeles and Carmageddon II, but that seems all too easy. Far from car porn, car cults or cartoon racing automobiles come to life, The Cars That Ate Paris (also released under the alternative title The Cars That Eat People) is a disturbing film made about one town's dream of a self-enclosed economy of car parts, crash victims and their post-wreck scattered possessions. If you found Crash creepy, this could easily be it's quieter, less slick, older brother. Director Peter Weir slyly injects some social commentary about the things that we own (or our things owning us). He went on to make The Truman Show, Witness, Dead Poets Society & Gallipoli.
Keep your bloodshot eyes open for actor Bruce Spence who you might know better as Jedediah the Pilot from The Road Warrior. Yep, more car movies.
