S is for Serial Killers - Dahmer

I'm asking you to tune in & turn on to this scummy sub genre of films, birthed by true crime, hyper sensationalized by the media and consumed like a $10.00 Vegas buffet for the masses.

Originally, I was going to write about the graphic novel My Friend Dahmer which was recently made into a feature film. Like the source material, it looks creepy & great, but then I just started thinking about real life, serial killer films and realized I need to talk about my favorites.

I'm not one to get off on being high & terrified. I can smoke a bowl, go walk the dog and have a very reasonable, but effective case of paranoia descend on me. These film are special for their camp value finely blended with “the realness" of the based-on-a-true-story factor. Schlock & awe by way of shock & horror. This is not slasher films territory, but real horror come to life. These were not characters getting killed or killing, but actual people. There is something terrible and sad on display here. It makes you a bit sick, but you keep watching. Oh yes, you do.

So let's talk about Dahmer. He's played by everyone's not so favorite Avenger Jeremy Renner. This and The Hurt Locker will change your mind completely about his acting chops. Go watch both of those and then you can go back to being underwhelmed by him as Hawkeye.
