Late February 2020: “It’s a hoax!
Early March 2020: “It only the flu!”
Late March 2020: “It’s a dangerous virus!”

Several weeks into the global pandemic, the new normal (for some) was sitting tight and washing your hands a lot. I’m a homebody by nature, but tell me I can’t go out and I want to go out. But these circumstances were extraordinary. People got sick. Others were dying. Even my usual dark humor felt in bad taste.

But whatever the new normal looks like as far as living differently, humans are adaptable. Maybe this was the wake-up call for the decades of kicking the shit out of our fragile Mother Nature. The pandemic felt like her kicking back at the human race. It’s hard to blame her even as we worried about our loved ones, feared for the future and prayed for it to end.
