Marijuana Movie - Blue Velvet
David Lynch is the tour guide to what's really behind the Norman Rockwell America often portrayed. He warns us that all is not as it seems with the squeaky clean, fresh faced girl who stealthily carries a raging STD. Or the helpful neighbor who lets you borrow his hose, but wears a leather teddy underneath his suit and loosened tie. And the politician whose done so much good for unwed mothers and the homeless, but can't get away from late nights cruising young hustlers and likes a pinch of PCP in his weed.
Mr. Lynch enjoys making the beautiful ugly and the bizarre thought provoking. Eraserhead is a perfect examples and it changed how I thought about film. He continues to do such interesting work. His repertoire has involved tinkering with music, but he released a solo album late last year. If you've not heard Crazy Clown Time, go out and get it. Lynch has conjured all the creepy haziness and late night weirdness he has shown on the screen into an audio experience. I look forward to any of his new projects, whatever they may be.
