The Hippie Dream Is Hard
For some time now, Matt Ross has been trucking in weird worlds you can't get into without an invitation or family. Maybe it came from growing up in the ever bizarre 1% haven of Greenwich, Connecticut. Or perhaps it's all those years playing a Mormon zealot on Big Love or his recent turn as an executive in the tech wonderland of Silicon Valley.
Captain Fantastic is Ross' take on yet another type of fringe family, but of the radical ilk, living off the grid. I was truly expecting something preachy & ultimately unbalanced. My favorite surprises are the ones which arrive when I've a good solid sativa buzz on. Regardless, no review spoilers from me.
So break out the Noam Chomsky and don't you dare call this film "interesting" after you see it.
