Chuck Barris' Dangerous Mind
Chuck Barris was a man of many talents; a creative powerhouse who had an astute understanding of the kind of trash people wanted to consume. Barris is the grandfather of reality television and, for his many game shows, was called "The Barron of Bad Taste" and "The Ayatollah of Trashola." He saw the future, showed it to us and was punished for it.
So everyone has their breaking point. And maybe Barris reached his and decided to spin a tale of an ordinary man on the outside who was actually a U.S. patriot & trained killer in the shadows. We will likely never know, but this film (based on Barris' book of the same title), first directorial attempt of George Clooney and script by uber-scribe Charlie Kaufman, is as groovy as it gets. This is also the film that made Sam Rockwell a household name (at last) and Drew Barrymore and Julie Roberts are in it as well. [wipes off sweaty brow]
